Delivery of goods through drones has started in Dubai
Residents or workers in Dubai
Silicon Oasis can now order food,
medicine or other essential items
from their homes via drone.
Dubai Crown Prince,
Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Defense
Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum officially launched the
Middle East’s first-of-its-kind drone
delivery system at Dubai Silicon
Oasis (DSO).
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed
placed the first order using the
drone delivery system through the
Rochester Institute of Technology-
Dubai (RIT-Dubai) platform, which
successfully landed at its
destination.
The drone is designed to operate
in different areas of the city and is
equipped with a low-noise fan,
parachute and flight control system.
Over the past few months,
Dubai Silicon Oasis has conducted a
series of pilot operations for drone
delivery operations, which were
carried out in collaboration with
DCAA and Keeta Drone.
Mohammed Abdullah Linjoui,
Director General of DCAA, said that
drone delivery will reach 33% of
Dubai by 2030, and we will continue
to play a key role in creating new
opportunities by regulating and
operating drones.
He said that
the government and private sector
will work together to pave the way
for the introduction of various
emerging and promising
technologies in the aviation sector.
The launch of the drone delivery
system was also attended by Omar
bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of
State for Artificial Intelligence,
Digital Economy and Remote Work
