Experts have been doing various researches for the last several decades to estimate the exact biological age of any person,
but a simple test has proved to be very helpful in this regard.
This test is especially for the elderly to find out how much they are affected by the effects of aging.
This test can be done easily
by all elderly people at home by simply standing on one leg to see how long they can stand.
According to a new study,
people over the age of 50 who can stand on one leg for 30 seconds are less affected by the effects of aging.
In terms of how healthy an elderly person is,
this test has been shown to be better than other hand strength, knee strength, and gait tests done in the past.
The study's senior researcher Keaton Kaufman,
director of the Mayo Clinic's Motion Analysis Laboratory, says balance is an important measure because it requires muscle strength, as well as the vision, vestibular and somatosensory systems.
According to the researcher,
if a person's balance is not right, it is worth noting, because if one has poor balance, it increases the risk of falling whether you are moving or just standing.
Falling is a serious health hazard for the elderly and can lead to many problems.
For the study, researchers put 40 healthy, independent people
over the age of 50 through a series of movement tests, with half of the participants under 65 and the other half 65 or older. .
In the balance test,
the participants had to stand on one leg for 30 seconds, while keeping their eyes open and holding their other leg with their hand.
However, other researchers
have presented a chart in this regard, according to which if a person belongs to the above age, standing on one leg for that long is a sign of good health.
If you are under 40,
you must stand on one leg continuously for 43 seconds.
If you're in your 40s, aim for 40 seconds.
If you're in your 50s, try 37 seconds.
If you're in the 60s, aim for 18 to 19 seconds.
If you're in the 70s, it's 10 to 15 seconds.
If you're 80 or older, aim for a little more than 5 seconds.
Standing on one leg provides the most accurate picture of decline with age, the researcher says.
Kaufman said people can improve their balance by practicing standing on one leg because it doesn't require any equipment or going to the gym.
